HeadBuilder Drumhead Designer
The file formats HeadBuilder accepts (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, PDF, TIFF, PSD and HEIC), the size limits, and what to do with anything we can’t take directly.
Formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, PDF, TIFF, PSD and HEIC (iPhone photos).
PNG is ideal for logos and artwork — it's lossless and handles transparent backgrounds cleanly. SVG (vector) is best of all when you have it: it stays razor-sharp at any size. JPGs are fine for photos; if you're saving one yourself, use the least compression you can (a quality setting of 75 to 100).
A couple of notes. Photoshop (.psd) files are flattened when you upload — your layers become one image, so turn off anything you don't want printed (guides, port marks, notes) first. PDFs use their first page, and animated GIFs their first frame. If an SVG has text in it, convert the text to outlines before saving, so your lettering prints exactly as drawn — and keep everything embedded in the file (no linked images), as one still image.
Size: up to 75 MB per file, and up to 8000 pixels on the longest side — plenty for any drumhead. We take your full-resolution original before anything gets scaled down for the screen, so nothing you upload is thrown away.
Filenames don't matter. Call the file whatever you like.
Bigger is always better. A small image can be placed on a head, but it can only be enlarged so far before it softens. If all you have is a small file — or artwork in a format we can't take directly, like Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or EPS — White Glove Design Service instead. That process handles anything you can throw at it, including files up to 150 MB.
And you're welcome to send us artwork before you order if you'd like us to look at it first. We'd rather tell you up front than have you disappointed later.
